Assaulted

The small child
cowers
in pure terror.

Blows reign
on her naked head
and body.

Kick, punch,
hit, thump,
assault, smash!

Rage
has catapulted
her mother
beyond reason.

Do not condemn
the poor, demented woman.
But pity the child.

Beaten,
she cringes
in numb fear

crouching in mortal dread.
Ever terrified
better dead.
