Derreens

The boat lay still and inviting
on a sea too quiet for words.
Perfect mountain slopes called upwards
mirrored in gentle sheen below.

Supper with Ivory was always bizarre.
Heather in hot, purple clusters lay all around.
The painful faces of children told the story
of a day's sketching. Dogs sprawled on the ground.
Green had replaced her usual pastel shades.
The boat in one child's sketch seemed oddly
threatened. Relief showed in the child's face
as we moved away. Supper was served.

A total mess in the kitchen revealed
the first casualty of the day's sketching.
Ivory, her children, my weekly invitation
to lobster supper and the Derreens sunshine.
